I chose both of these political cartoons because both of them made me laugh when I looked and read over them. The one to the left is a more modern cartoon, that shows how most of Europe was vying for a take in Africa, while the one below shows England's major role in Imperialism in Europe. I like that in the cartoon to the left, it highlights just how spread out the Imperialistic ideas were in Europe, especially concerning the "Dark Continent". In the cartoon below, I love how the artist portrayed England as an Octopus, with hands (or tentacles) in so many countries that it was hard to believe. It reminds me of the phrase for England during the Imperialistic time period- "The sun never sets on the British Empire". Both of these cartoons are very accurate descriptions of how Imperialism worked in Europe from 1870-1914, and they both succeeded in making me laugh!
